Having read your comments I can only disagree with you on the housing stock. When Gordon Brown destroyed the returns and taxed private pensions naturally responsible folk turned to other sources to fund their retirement. Housing was one option, let for income boost to cover poor pension returns and hopefully to leave to children in will. Tony Blair’s and subsequent fools open door and generous benefits culture brought 10 million immigrants into the country and puts pressures on housing. Don’t blame us born after WW2. We struggled through poverty in the 50s inflation in the 60s and 70s, worked 42+ hours a week and rarely holidayed abroad. We have the poorest state pension in Europe.

It will be a sad day if one's home is subject to CGT. This is not something we expect from a Conservative government. Property is unaffordable mainly because house building has not kept up with the sudden growth in population. Older people are also reluctant to downsize because they will still pay a hefty Stamp Duty Land Tax bill on their onward purchase. Please leave this reform, if that is what it is, to Labour, and if it has to happen, at least let us have a few years notice so we can downsize in good time.
