Leave Kenyans, who enjoy killing each other wholesale from time to time, to their new pals. The Chinese do nothing for free out of their kindness and generosity. Every Kenyan is a potential Uyghur or Tibetan for them to exploit and subjugate. Kenya’s history is a litany of government corruption and they richly deserve the leeching Chinese. Perhaps you, and your colleagues, might look at Kenya's decison reference military training in relation to the slashing of the aid budget which many more Kenyans rely/relied upon than those in Nanyuki, and point out that this could be an example of where soft power helps hard power?
We need a new politics, conservative with a soft C, not the 'chase the right-wing muppetry' that is in vogue and one which properly recognises where we truly sit in the world order be it defence, trade and diplomacy. What military men call; looking beyond the 25m target and looking up and to the distance.
I was having a chat with an East African friend about the state of the world and our place in it, always a pleasure and educative, and remarked that we, in Britain, fail to understand how much the world has moved on and how we continue to remain intellectually static and wedded to the past, be it history and relationships.
He did also share one 'continental' opinion of the Brits view of the world which is our view that 'The sun nevers sets on the British Empire' should be finished off with 'because God can't trust them in the dark'.
